A compact, handheld enclosure that may be carried around wherever one goes. A simple stoopa-like structure carved from wood, with the frontal half fashioned into a two-pane door. The same may be drawn open to reveal a miniature seated Buddha figure, as if nestled within the core of the truly devoted heart. The sculpture that you see on this page is an inspired work.
The padmasana Buddha cradles an almsbowl in His left hand and raises the right one in blessing. Despite the scale of the figurine, the composure of countenance is expressive: a compassionate smile plays around the corners of His mouth and there is wisdom writ large on His brow. His golden body is draped with an earthy green robe, a colour scheme that matches the surrounding structure.
A mythical amphibian of the Buddhist paraloka graces the inner section of the doorpanes. The creature seems to be reaching out to an elusive golden conch. Syllables in Pali carved into the outer sections, which one may view in the second picture. Carved along the back of the precinct are episodes from the Shayamuni’s life as well as atleast one other Buddhist deity.
