Bodhi tree sculpted here in a unique stylistic manner with the symmetrical thick branches emerging out from the sides having outgrown beautiful leaves and bunches of figs hang on it; this sacred fig tree is symbolic of compassion, faith, wisdom and is also significant as the tree of enlightenment. It is said that Gautama Buddha sheltered under this tree where he was journeying to the path of enlightenment.
As shown in this sculpture, Gautama Buddha is in his meditation posture on a balanced double lotus pedestal called Visvapadmasana under the famous enlightened tree with two peacocks sitting at the top; these, apart from being symbolic of peace and prosperity also add to the beauteous detail of the revered sculpture.
The rare Buddha figure with the long leaf shaped crown with petalled borders and the lavish robe garbed in an indifferent manner, flows in an ease forming mesmerizing and comforting pleats at the bottom; texture of his long ears and that of his matted hair gives realistic vibes of concentration and cleanliness; posture of his hands, of fingers overlapping each other forming a triangle in between is an indication of him being in his dhyan.
