Preface It is heartening to see that a rare manuscript of 'Tailaprakaranam' ascribed to the great sage Aitreya who commanded high reputation in the field of ayurveda' (traditional Indian medicine) is being brought out by the Oriental Research institute, University of Mysore, Mysuru. So far about 207 unpublished manuscripts of scholarly works in Sanskrit language were edited printed and published under 'Oriental Research Institute Series' from this 125 year old prestigious Institute. The present work "Taila prakaranam' bears the serial number 208 among the publications of this institute which is devoted to the research and publication of rare Sanskrit works written on palm leaf and paper manuscripts. The editorial task of the text "Tailaprakaranam' by Dr.M.Rangaswamy, Research Assistant-II, is based on a single palm leaf manuscript bearing the number P.9780/4 preserved in the Oriental Research Institute. The text is a metrical composition on the methodical preparation of therapeutic oils processed with selected medicinal herbs.
