Preface

An Introduction to Buddhist Philosophy (Vijñānavada and Madhyamika) is a collection of my research papers in the area of Buddhist philosophy. These papers were written dur ing the last twelve years of my study of Buddhism. The book consists of ten chapters, which contain, with the exception of the first one, research papers, which I presented at some national or international seminar/conference in India and abroad. The first chapter, viz., An Introduction to Vijñānavada is basically the introductory part of my another book 'Vijñaptimätratasiddhi' which is being simultenously published. I do not claim that I have made any major contri bution to the Buddhist philosophy by writing these papers but I may humbly state that wherever these papers were read or presented, they were widely appreciated by scholars both eastern and western.
