Foreword It is generally accepted that a very few languages of the world equal the marvels of the rich oriental language, Sanskrit. Its contribution to all branches of learning is unique. The century old Oriental Research Institute of Mysore is well known for preservation and publication of manuscripts rare Sanskrit This prestigeous institute is presenting one more publication, entitled 'Alankara Raghavam -Part 1. The second part of this novel work has already been published in the year 1991 itself by the same institute. Both are the outcome of the scholarly task of Vidwan Dr. T. V. Satyanarayana a Senior Research Assistant in the Oriential Research Institute.

The extensive work Alankärarāghavam is divided into two parts. The first part which is being published now begins with a critical introduction to Alankarasastra. The elaborate treatment of Nayaka, Kavyanirupaṇam, Abhidha Lakshana-Vyanjana are discussed in detail. In addition to this the other fundamental topics of Alankarasastra such as Vrtti, Riti, Dhvani and Kavyaprabhedas, Rasas, Dosas and Gunas are treated briefly and effectively. He also bring the ten varieties of Rūpaka under the heading Natya prakarana. In all these contexts the author Yajneśvara Dixita exhibits his outstanding scholarship.
